This is an Antique Victorian Rosewood Veneer Box with Mother of Pearl Inlays on the lid. The inlays are visible in the photos and include stringing, round circles, a cartouche on the lid, and a key escutcheon. They are all intact. The rosewood veneer is in wonderful condition without drying cracking, missing pieces, or warping. Inside, it is lined with with a green velour type fabric and it has a tray with small compartments fastened around the sides and back. The key was with the Box when we found it and it works smoothly to secure the latch. It is medium sized being 10 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 4 inches tall. It weighs just over 2 pounds. It is possible to find online a few other Victorian boxes made of rosewood and with inlays somewhat similar to this one. We have not been able to determine who the maker was or its exact age. Our antiques expert guessed circa 1890's. It is unusual to find one though in such great condition. We had a rosewood writing box and thought this one complimented it well so here it is. Be sure to check out the photo that shows both together. We would prefer to sell them together for a substantial savings to a buyer on the combined price and also on shipping. We invite your inspection and offer. We accept returns for any reason within 30 days but this one will not be returned.
